Handmade Christmas Decorations

Happy New Year Everybody!!

I hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year and you are now ready to crack on with 2017! Abbie and I have been using our spare time to be creative before we head back to work. We are preparing for next Christmas by making new decorations for our tree. I always find it easier to make things for Christmas earlier in the year as the festive period seems to always be rush, rush, rush!

These are the first two decorations we have made...

A quick how to guide on what we did!
Firstly here is a list of materials needed
  • Red Felt - we used two different types, one with decorative snowflakes on and one plain (From HobbyCraft)
  • Green Felt - used for decoration on the baubles (From HobbyCraft)
  • Sequins  (From the Range)
  • Red Yarn (From local market stall)
  • Green Yarn (From local market stall)
  • Green Cotton (From local market stall)
  • Fabric Glue (From local market stall)
  • Fibre Filling (From Dunelm Mill)
  • Festive Green Ribbon (From the Range)
  • Sizzix big circle die 2", 3", 4" (we used 3" for the craft) (From Sizzix online)
  • xcut alphabet letters die (From the Range)
  • DoveCrafts Bunting die used for the Tree (From the Range)

Process for NOEL Bauble

Firstly, I cut out the two circles for the front and back of the bauble with the decorative pattern to be on the outside, along with the individual letters for the NOEL lettering. Next was fixing the individual letters and the decorative sequins to the front facing cut out circle using the fabric glue. Then I blanket stitched the two circles together 3/4 the way around along with stitching in the ribbon to hang it on the tree. Then to complete the bauble i added the stuffing to it and completed the blanket stitch around the outside edge to finish the bauble.

Process for the Tree Bauble

A very similar process to the NOEL bauble, as i cut both the circles and the triangle first to begin with. Using my sewing machine i stitched the triangle in the centre of the circle to act as the tree and hand stitched the decorative sequins to the tree to act as baubles for the tree. The next stage was to blanket stitch 3/4 the way around including stitching the ribbon in place, then adding an adequate amount of stuffing to the bauble and finally finishing off the blanket stitch and it is complete!

This is a work in progress! As you can see the left hand side of the roof is missing a star (this is because i ran out of red thread). I also need to do a blanket stitch around the top of the roof and then attached the roof to the gingerbread house via sewing machine.

Once it is complete, i will upload a new post with details on how i made it.
